version
A version reflects the time dimension of a database entry. Versions are identified by version numbers. The sequence of version numbers reflects the historical order, i.e. the lower the version number, the older the database entry. Conceptually, version numbers are associated with time points defining the beginning of the version interval.
Versions are defined for a scope (database or owner scope), which guaranties a consistency within the scope, but not outside the scope. Within the scope, versions are numbered consecutively.
