run Software-Werkstatt GmbH
Below you can read some internals of run Software.
Foundation
run Software was founded in 1994 to build a frame for the ODABA development that had been started 1992. The basic idea of the company is to combine modern technologies and tools with the development of powerful applications. Five shareholders own the company with a signed capital of 122.000 DEM.
Activities
Basically we are developing object-oriented database software and tools. Besides we are providing complex applications mainly for different types of administration. Special experiences we have in developing applications with complex structure (as e.g. metadata systems, complex administration systems). We are mainly providing solutions in MS Window environments (Windows 95/98/Me/2000/XP) and server solutions for UNIX and Linux platforms.
An essential part of our activities is the development of ODABA, the OODBMS and its tools. As other applications this is a continous process and we release a new ODABA version each two or three years.
An important development was the development of the statistical Metadata Repository BridgeNA system. The BridgeNA is now being used in national statistical offices of several European countries.
Theoretical Background
Development is based on theoretical principles that go beyond the technical approach of Unified Method. The theoretical background is a synthesis of natural language principles and object-oriented database requirements. This has been published in "Real Objects", Addison Wesley, 1996.
Co-operation
Co-operation with other companies is of quite big importance because run Software is a development company in the first place. Since the foundation of the company there are quite close relations to Informatics Consulting GmbH, Berlin, which did main parts of the industrial test for run Software products. Close relations exist as well to Space Time Research ltd. in Australia, Melbourne, that are known for fast aggregation systems.
Moreover, there is a close co-operation with the Humboldt University, Berlin.
