extent

An extent (or global collection) is a collection of referenced instances (reference collection), which is part of the database or of an external data source. All extents and its data sources are defined in the database schema. An extent collects a number of instances of the same or different data types.

Extents may be stored as persistent, transient or temporary collections. For transient extents the transient type (permanent or bounded) does not matter.
